Family Dentistry

Amelia Perfect Smile provides excellent Family Dentistry for you and your family. Our dentists can treat most children starting at 7 years of age (Please call to verify the age, nature of the child, and the level of treatment needed).  Save yourself the time and energy of visiting multiple dentist offices and instead, have your entire family treated in our conveniently located practice in Fernandina Beach.

It’s important to us that we help you set up good foundations for proper oral care. We work together with parents, children, and even grandparents to set great examples for each other and encourage healthy, perfect smiles.

The Best Dental Care for Your Family

The American Dental Association recommends at least two regular dental checkups per year for children and adults of all ages. During your checkup, we will inspect every tooth for cavities, assess plaque levels, and look for damage, like chipped teeth.

We may take a set of oral X-rays during your visit To ensure that your teeth are healthy. This examination allows us to diagnose cavities, identify any pre-existing issues, and check for anything out of the ordinary. It is not mandatory but is highly recommended yearly and before specific dental procedures.

We will thoroughly explain your action plan so you have a clear understanding before we start any procedure. Our patients value knowing what the finish line looks like and what we need to do to get there.

If you’ve been looking for a family dentist, you’ve probably heard the term “family dentistry” quite a bit. But what does this phrase actually mean? Is it any different from a general dentist or comprehensive dentist? What can you expect from a family dental practice.?

We want our patients to be well-informed about what we do at our office and the services we provide. Here’s some helpful information about family dentistry:

Family Dentistry – General, Preventive, And Comprehensive Treatment

Not all general dentists are family dentists. Most family dentists have at least some training related to working with children, though not as much as specialized pediatric dentists. This means that family dentistry is intended to help you address your oral health needs, and those of your children, at every stage of life.

Family dentists understand that kids have different dental needs than adults, and they are trained to deliver specialized care to make sure that their unique oral hygiene needs are met.

Essentially, you can think of a family dentist as a “one-stop shop”. One of the major benefits of a practice like Amelia Perfect Smile is that the same dental practice can take care of your dental health from through your entire life, from childhood and the teenage years, into adulthood.

Family dentists understand the changes that take place in a child’s mouth throughout every stage of life, and they are trained to provide a gentle, caring approach to dentistry. We want to ensure that your family always has a positive experience when you come in for an appointment.

Family Dentistry Services – What To Expect

We offer services related to oral hygiene and preventive dentistry, orthodontia, dental implants, and cosmetic dentistry. Our family dentistry services include:

  • Regular 6-month cleanings and exams   – Teeth cleanings and 6-month exams are extremely important, as they allow your dentist to monitor the health of your mouth, or your child’s oral hygiene.
  • Fluoride treatments and dental sealants   – Fluoride and dental sealants can help combat cavities, and are often used in children who are cavity-prone.
  • Cavity checks and fillings   – Cavities are, by far, the most common preventable childhood health condition, so family dentists specialize in identifying and treating cavities with fillings.
  • Orthodontics   – Most family dentists will offer orthodontic assessments, though not all of them offer orthodontics in-house, and may refer you to another specialist in the area.
  • Gum disease treatment   – Gum disease is very common in adults, so family dentists use procedures like deep cleanings, gum flap surgery, and antibiotics to deal with cases of gingivitis or gum disease.

Family Dentistry: Creating Healthy, Perfect Smiles

After your examination is complete, we can perform a thorough dental cleaning. Professional cleanings are encouraged to prevent or slow the process of gingivitis (gum disease) and dental decay.

Dental decay and periodontitis are the top causes of tooth loss, so it is essential to perform proper oral hygiene at home. Good oral hygiene includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding certain foods and drinks that may harm your teeth. During your visit, we’ll be happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding your oral hygiene and how to best care for your teeth.
